This is a serious matter, people! It should not be treated like conventional coffee. While their website may have cautions and a disclaimer stating that they are providing 200 percent more caffeine, customers who purchase via Amazon do not receive such a warning. One customer discovered this the hard way. Here’s what she had to say about her experience. After hearing about Deathwish Coffee from a friend, I decided to get some for myself. Because the advertising stated that it was organic and Fair trade, I reasoned, “what could possibly go wrong?” I drank it for three weeks before experiencing my first ever full-blown panic episode as a result.
- When I made the link, I realized it had something to do with the coffee, so I quit cold turkey.
- My fourth day was spent in emergency, where I was treated for a panic attack and given medication to help me sleep better.
- They Pink-slipped me and told me that they had to separate me from my spouse and send me to the psychiatric ward.
- It has completely shattered my life, and I am currently attempting to put it back together.
- -Lis Roebuck, n.d.
- Consumers must also follow the brewing instructions provided by Death Wish Coffee in order to achieve the indicated caffeine level.
This coffee is only suitable for people who have a strong tolerance to caffeine and who are able to tolerate high doses of the substance. This coffee has the potential to be the strongest in the world.
Varieties of Death Wish Coffee
- The stakes are quite high here, people! Avoid treating it the same way you would an ordinary cup of java. Amazon customers do not receive any cautions, despite the fact that their website may have warnings and declare the 200 percent greater caffeine disclaimer. It was a painful learning experience for one customer. What follows is her account of the event. Because of a recommendation from a friend, I purchased Deathwish Coffee on Amazon. Given that it was advertised as organic and Fair trade, I figured, “what could possibly go wrong?”. Then I experienced my first ever full-blown panic episode, after drinking it for three weeks. Never been sick, never used a prescription medication, and I don’t even have a primary care physician. My reasoning led me to believe that it had anything to do with the coffee, so I stopped drinking it immediately. 8 days without a single wink of sleep was a record for me. My fourth day was spent in emergency because I couldn’t sleep and I had another panic attack. My husband and I were separated and sent to a psychiatric ward, where I was housed alongside twelve other individuals who were suffering from major mental illnesses. They Pink-slipped me and told me that they had to separate me from my spouse and send me to a psychiatric facility. In one month, I have not slept more than 4 hours per night, with most nights consisting of only 2 hours. The incident has completely demolished my life, and I am attempting to put it back together. We ask that you refrain from consuming this beverage. The author, Lis R. Roebuck, is quoted as saying Please keep in mind that Lis ingested Death Wish at the same rate that she consumed her usual coffee, which was a full pot per day. In order to achieve the indicated caffeine amount, consumers must also follow the brewing instructions provided by Death Wish Coffee. For every six ounces of water, they recommend adding 2 1/2 teaspoons of finely ground coffee. Caffeine tolerance and the ability to manage large levels of caffeine are prerequisites for drinking this coffee. This may very well be the world’s strongest cup of coffee!

Compared to Other Items
A cup of Death Wish Coffee has 60.67 mg of caffeine, which is equivalent to one cup of coffee (205.14 mg per 100 ml). A 12-ounce cup of coffee has a total of 728 milligrams of caffeine. Our chart will not accommodate Death Wish Coffee, which has 728 mg of caffeine.
For any of you who have read any of our coffee-related articles, you are aware that we are serious about our brew. On everything from pour-overs to espresso equipment, and from bean roast to brew strength, we are passionate about it all. During this week’s Wirecutter, we’re focusing on all things coffee. On certain mornings, my brain gears seem to be turning more slowly than usual, as if the lubricating oil in them has solidified into tar. The Death Wishcoffee, which has a high concentration of caffeine, has been my go-to beverage during those occasions when I’ve been in desperate need of a kick-start.
- Starbucks’ dark, medium, and blonde roasts, on the other hand, contain 193, 235, and 270 mg of caffeine, respectively.
- The flavor of Death Wish after making a 12-ounce cup (using the company’s recommended brewing ratio and grind size, along with our top-pickpour-over dripper) was robust and, yes, potently strong—it was all coffee, no nuance.
- It’s the kind of thing I’d expect to discover in the thermos of a lumberjack or a captain of a crab boat on the Bering Sea.
- All 16 other Wirecutter workers who took part in an informal taste test were unanimous in their disapproval, labeling it “bitter,” “overly roasted,” or “having a burned flavor” among their criticisms.
- Death Wish certainly generates a lot of interest.
- However, after a time, it made me feel a little jittery.
- The jitteriness, headache, and acid reflux that some people experienced were reported by those who did not like the event.
- The majority of specialists believe that healthy persons may use around 400 mg of caffeine per day without harming themselves.
In the opinion ofMary Margaret Sweeney, PhD, an instructor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine (and a nationally renowned caffeine specialist), consuming more than that can result in restlessness, uneasiness, agitation, sleeplessness, and other side effects.
That leaves Death Wish in a predicament.
How Much Caffeine is in Death Wish Coffee?
Imagine a massive black food truck roaring down the street, with a skull and crossbones decal on the side and the terrifying warning “powered by death” written on the side. However, Death Wish coffee is generating headlines, despite the fact that it is not the picture that comes to mind when you think about your hot and steaming morning cup of coffee! It is challenging coffee enthusiasts all across the globe to sample the mix, which it claims to be the “world’s strongest coffee.” Death Wish has even ventured into outer space, sending its coffee to the International Space Station (ISS) for consumption.
Here, we’ll go through the specifics of the coffee, including how much caffeine it actually contains and if it’s a healthy option.
Coffee: From vice to healthy choice?
Coffee has long had a bad image as a habit that is both harmful and necessary. Recent research, on the other hand, suggests that the opposite is true. Coffee, when consumed in moderation, has been shown to reduce inflammation, act as an antioxidant, and protect against certain diseases, including certain types of cancer, in humans. One study published in BMJ Open in 2017 found that both caffeinated and decaffeinated coffee were associated with a decreased risk of liver cancer. According to a study published in the International Journal of Cancer in 2018, women who drink more than three cups of coffee per day have a lower risk of colon cancer.
The above is merely the tip of the iceberg.
Perhaps this is why it has been described as a “miracle medication.” Nonetheless, not all cups of coffee are created equal, particularly if your latte is loaded with sugary creamers and artificial sweeteners.
(Take a look at these healthy coffee ideas to improve your coffee consumption.)
Coffee: By the numbers
Almost one-third of Americans drink two cups of coffee each day, while 13 percent drink three cups and 14 percent drink four to five cups per day, respectively. According to a Statistica poll of more than 800 people conducted in 2019, a whooping 9 percent consume six or more cups of coffee every day. Because the study primarily looked at at-home coffee use, the results may be skewed higher if the participants made coffee shop purchases or drank coffee at work. The caffeine content of an eight-ounce cup of coffee is around 96 mg.
If you are a Starbucks devotee, keep in mind that the caffeine content of your baseline beverage may be higher: the famous Pike Place brew contains more than double the standard amount of caffeine, at 235 mg for a “tall” size, and the caffeine content of the other roasts only goes up from there.
The story behind Death Wish Coffee
Early in 2011, Death Wish Coffeefounder and CEO Mike Brown was working at a coffee shop in Saratoga Springs, New York, when he observed that early morning customers would ask for his “strongest cup of coffee.” His strongest brew didn’t appear to be strong enough, so he decided to make his own. Brown was inspired by a koozie, the foam sleeves used to insulate beverage containers, that his girlfriend gave him around the same time—it was in allusion to a death wish—and founded the company as a result of his experiments with different bean combinations and roasts.
“Our logo is inspired by antique poison vials,” says the designer.
“Obviously, it is not toxic,” he adds, “but it contains the claim of being the world’s strongest coffee—no bull.” Death Wish Coffee is ranked as one of the top 12 strongest coffee brands by Caffeine Informer, while Fox News claims that Death Wish is the strongest coffee brand in the world.
How much caffeine is really in the world’s strongest coffee?
Nobody is certain since it is a well guarded business secret. “We recommend a cup of coffee that is twice as strong as the typical cup,” Sweeney explains. As Brown states in a blog post, “Death Wish Coffee may result in restless nights, active mornings, and productive days due to the amount of caffeine it contains,” which is equivalent to three cups of coffee. Based on USDA coffee caffeine statistics, these estimations would place the caffeine content of the coffee at roughly 300 mg per cup. Another source claims that it contains far more caffeine than that, despite the fact that it has not been tested for caffeine content.
According to Consumer Reports, Death Wish contains 472 mg of caffeine per cup, which is still the equivalent of consuming roughly five cups of coffee per person.
Sweeney adds that, in many circumstances, the strength of the coffee is relative and relies on how the coffee is prepared.
The coffee is prepared with arabica and robusta beans that are sourced from India and Peru, respectively.
Is it safe to drink Death Wish Coffee?
There is a significant difference between consuming 400 mg of caffeine in a single cup of coffee and consuming 400 mg of caffeine in four cups over the day. As Nicole Avena, PhD, assistant professor at Mount Sinai Medical School and visiting professor of health psychology at Princeton University who specializes in food, nutrition, and addiction explains, “it is not recommended to take that much coffee at once.” “Drinking a lot of caffeine over a long period of time might produce high blood pressure.” In addition, it might create mood swings as a result of the ups and downs that occur when caffeine leaves your system.” The former “legit coffee junkie” describes herself as someone who relied on caffeine to get through the day.
‘I made the decision about a month ago to simply go cold turkey because I was feeling jittery after having a Starbucks in the afternoon,’ she explains.
“The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) advises that consuming more than 1,200 mg of caffeine in a short period of time might result in caffeine overdose,” explains Jabraan Pasha, MD, an internal medicine physician in Tulsa, OK.
The use of more than two to three cups of coffee each day, according to Dr.
“It can also cause a ‘crash’ later in the day, which can lead to an increase in caffeine use.” The doctor recommends that persons who suffer from various medical conditions, such as cardiac arrhythmias or acid reflux or who suffer from anxiety or sleep disturbances, avoid consuming high amounts of coffee.
Who is the typical Death Wish Coffee drinker?
Having a triple cup of coffee all in one mug may sound enticing if you have to work in the middle of the night or on weekends. Many of their customers are people who require something to help them physically stay awake at night, such as “first responders, nurses, or doctors, or shift workers—people who work overnight and require a strong cup of coffee because they are waking up for the 3 a.m. shift or working two 12-hour shifts in a row,” according to Sweeney. She further notes that the majority of consumers are often middle-aged, between the ages of 30 and 40, and have the financial means to purchase a high-end brew.
Next, if you are unable to tolerate coffee, there are some surprise energy boosters to experiment with.

Strong coffee is something you’ll want to strive for, and how you brew your coffee will play a role in that. Why? Well, the procedures for brewing stronger coffee (and we’re talking about coffee that’s both stronger in taste and caffeine content, here) might vary from one brewing option to another, and believe it or not, there’s a lot more to it than simply using stronger beans. If you’re obtaining a cup of highly caffeinated coffee, such as Death Wish, you need first learn how to make a cup of coffee, including how strong you want your cup to be, how much coffee beans and water you’ll need, and what technique you’ll employ.
- Increase the coffee-to-water ratio by a sliver of a percentage point. In order to avoid making the taste unbearable, you must not overdo it with flavoring. You just desire a tiny increase in the amount of grounds (and, thus, caffeine!) added to the mix. Make your coffee by grinding your beans a little finer than you would for ordinary coffee. Increased caffeine extraction (but if you ground it too fine, the brew can be harsh)
- Greater flavor extraction
- And more flavor extraction Make use of slightly hotter water whenever possible. However, do not bring the water to a raging boil and instantly pour it all over the grinds. Consider utilizing a device such as the French press rather than burning them. Using a French press allows for a longer extraction time while yet providing you with sufficient control to prevent brewing harsh coffee.

Death Wish Coffee: The Full Review
Let’s start with a little background information before we get into the review.
A History Lesson: The Life of Death Wish
It all began in a little coffee shop in the tranquil hamlet of Saratoga Springs, New York, where Death Wish Coffee Company is based today. Mike Brown, the company’s creator, came up with the mixture while working there in 2012. His ambition is to create the world’s strongest cup of coffee. Brown created the procedure for sourcing the beans and roasting them to perfection, which has come to characterize the firm. and deliver that energizing injection of caffeine that everyone needs in the morning.
So you can be certain (at least until the caffeine boost wears off) that, in addition to you, the client, they are also thinking about the farmers, roasters, and the beans themselves while creating their products.
Death Wish Coffee Beans, Death Wish Ground Coffee and an Unmentionable
Death Wish Coffee Co. provides a variety of options for customers to acquire their beans. It’s even included in our list of the finest coffee available for purchase on Amazon. You may either purchase whole bean coffee (which is the best option!) or pre-ground coffee beans. What exactly is it? Oh, then there’s also that other, unmentionable alternative. Okay, I’ll bring it up, even if it’s the one place where Death Wish Coffee does not receive our approval. ‘Death cups’ are coffee pods for Keurig machines (could the K in K-cups represent for killer?) They also sell coffee pods for other coffee makers.
But, let’s get back to the entire bean bag thing that we enjoy.
While the Arabica plant is the most commonly used for high-end coffee beans, Death Wish has taken the risk of including some Indian Robu s ta beans into the blend as well, bringing the punch of caffeine that Robusta brings to the table.
With a relatively high acidity and a dark, roasted body that is robust but not harsh, the Death Wish mix is a good choice (as long as you brew it correctly).
Death Wish Coffee Caffeine Content
It should come as no surprise that the “Death Wish” component of the name stems from the fact that this thing is PACKED with caffeine. How much caffeine are you talking about? Approximately 54.2 mg of caffeine is delivered by Death Wish in every fluid ounce! Accordingly, each cup of coffee has an absurd 600+ mg of caffeine, as opposed to the normal 100-200 mg found in most ordinary black coffees! Learn more about the caffeine found in coffee by visiting this site.
Death Wish Coffee Warning: Is Death Wish Coffee Safe?
As you might expect, the most common Death Wish coffee side effect is that it causes you to stay awake for an extended period of time. There are, however, a few things you should consider before shrugging your shoulders and continuing on your way. Keep in mind that it’s typically suggested not to consume more than 500 mg of caffeine per day, so one cup should be sufficient compared to your usual three or four cups of coffee. Don’t consume an entire pot of the concoction, or you may find yourself in the hospital!
Restlessness, a racing heartbeat, muscular tremors, and sleeplessness are all symptoms of a heart attack.
In addition, if you have any form of caffeine hypersensitivity (2), you should avoid this place at all costs! Seriously, if that’s the case, refrain from taking the title of the coffee too literally. Please.

If you are in a coffee shop, such as Starbucks, you should inquire as to the amount of caffeine contained in various cups of coffee before making a selection. You’ll be able to keep a careful eye on your caffeine consumption this way.
How Much Caffeine Is Too Much?
You should keep a watchful eye on your caffeine use. According to further information released by the Food and Drug Administration, you should restrict your caffeine intake to fewer than 400 mg per day at the very most. Moreover, you should avoid caffeine entirely if you do not require it to wake yourself up in the mornings to function well. In this approach, you avoid the possibility of building a caffeine dependent, which might result in adverse effects, such as caffeine withdrawal symptoms, in the future.
- Individuals differ in their ability to tolerate the stimulant caffeine.
- The faster caffeine is broken down and eliminated from your system, the faster it will leave your system.
- Everyone’s level of sensitivity to caffeine varies from person to person.

How Much Caffeine Is in Death Wish Coffee?
Some coffee drinkers are on the lookout for a brand of coffee that has a significant level of caffeine. The Death Wish coffee brand could be worth considering if you are a heavy coffee consumer. As soon as you take a glance at Death Wish coffee, the skull and crossbones should serve as a warning that you are in for a wild journey. An estimated 470 mg of caffeine is included in a single cup of Death Wish coffee, according to previously released figures. This is the equal of 5 cups of coffee in terms of clothing.
Because of this, anyone who is interested in experimenting with Death Wish coffee should proceed with extreme caution.
Final Word on How Much Caffeine in Death Wish Coffee
The caffeine amount of an ordinary cup of coffee is between 80 and 100 mg; however, the caffeine content of a cup of coffee might differ significantly from one brand to another. Death Wish coffee, which bills itself as “one of the strongest coffee brands in the world,” has more than 470 mg of caffeine per cup, according to the manufacturer. As a result, it is necessary to exercise caution when consuming Death Wish coffee since, according to the FDA, the recommended daily maximum for caffeine intake is 400 mg.
Nobody should consume this amount of caffeine until they are familiar with how caffeine affects them.
FAQs About How Much Caffeine Is In Death Wish Coffee
When you are weary, a neurotransmitter known as adenosine is connecting to its receptors in the central nervous system, causing you to feel fatigued as well. When you take caffeine, caffeine molecules prevent adenosine from attaching to the adenosine receptors in your body. Coffee helps you to feel less weary as a result of its caffeine content. When coffee is metabolized by your body, your adenosine receptors are reactivated and may bind to adenosine once again. It is for this reason that you feel exhausted, which is referred to as a coffee crash.
How long does caffeine stay in your system?
Caffeine has a distinct effect on each individual. Caffeine has a half-life of roughly 5 hours in the body. This indicates that if you drink 30 mg of caffeine, you will still have 15 mg of caffeine in your system roughly 5 hours after consuming the caffeine dose. It’s important to remember that everyone’s sensitivity to caffeine is different. When you consume caffeine, the effects you experience may be different from those experienced by others.
Does decaf coffee still have caffeine in it?
Yes, even decaffeinated coffee contains a little amount of caffeine. However, even though a cup of decaffeinated coffee has substantially less caffeine than a cup of ordinary coffee, if you are very sensitive to caffeine, you may still experience the effects of the caffeine.

It is possible that our posts will include affiliate links. More information may be found in our policies. If you’re a coffee enthusiast like me, this is the invigorating, energy-boosting, and brain-boosting beverage that you’ve been searching for. Okay, maybe “need” is a harsh term, but if you enjoy coffee, you’ll want to have a look.
After twelve years of hunting for a powerful, swift kick in the pants, I came upon a really tasty, highly caffeinated coffee that I immediately fell in love with. In fact, Death Wish Coffee’s caffeine concentration is among the highest in the world, according to the firm that produces it.
What is Death Wish Coffee?
Mike Brown, the founder of this coffee company in Saratoga Springs, New York, is credited with the creation of the brand. Brown, who uses a variety of beans that have been known for having high caffeine content, is continually tweaking his mix to ensure that his coffee’s rich flavor and caffeine explosion remain consistent. The coffees are also fair trade and USDA certified organic, which makes them even more appealing. TO EXPERIENCE: Have you ever tried your hand at cooking with coffee?
How much caffeine is in Death Wish Coffee?
Death Wish is a company that is completely committed to the production of high-caffeine coffee. And, in order to maintain their position as the world’s strongest coffee, they invest a significant amount of money and time into periodically testing their coffee in order to provide the most precise data possible about caffeine concentration. They do this to ensure that they maintain their position as the world’s strongest coffee brand. According to Consumer Reports, the caffeine concentration of Death Wish is 59 mg per fluid ounce of the beverage.
However, I did observe that the company’s marketing materials included the phrase “among the strongest coffees on earth,” which led me to believe they were referring to something stronger.
Death Wish Coffee caffeine content compared to your average cup of joe
What is the caffeine mg content of Death Wish Coffee and how does it compare to the caffeine mg content of other coffee brands? The average cup of coffee from a place like Dunkin Donuts or Seattle’s Best has around 12 mg of caffeine per ounce of beverage. In other words, a regular eight-ounce cup of coffee has around 96 milligrams of caffeine. A cup of Death Wish, on the other hand, has more than 470 mg of caffeine. That is a significant change! Keep in mind, however, that the amount of ground coffee used per serving and how this could affect the caffeine level are discussed further down.
Possible side effects of drinking Death Wish Coffee
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recommends that healthy individuals use no more than 400 mg of caffeine per day. A single cup of Death Wish coffee has more caffeine than this, which has prompted some people to express worry about the probable adverse effects of drinking this kind of coffee. According to FDA research on the effects of caffeine, severe side effects such as seizure have only been observed with the fast administration of around 1,200 mg of caffeine. (This might occur as a result of dietary supplementation.) In contrast, caffeine, when eaten in lower levels, is thought to have some good health benefits, such as boosting brain function, according to some studies.
However, because the caffeine content per cup serving in Death Wish is so high, this is a coffee that you may want to drink in moderation, such as one cup per day, rather than all at once.
I consumed one cup of coffee every day for several weeks without experiencing any negative side effects. In truth, I was in excellent health. Coffee can cause a variety of undesirable side effects in individuals who are sensitive to it, including the following:
- The following symptoms: insomnia
- Increased heart rate
- And anxiety.
Keep in mind that you can get these negative effects from any coffee, not only Death Wish, so be cautious when drinking it. However, if you are experiencing them as a result of drinking Death Wish coffee, you should stop using it.
My Death Wish Coffee review
In order to achieve the most strong flavor and caffeine content possible, Death Wish Coffee is roasted according to a planned roasting strategy. It is important to note that the final roast is rather black, which increases the impression of power. Overall, this organic coffee has a rich, savory body and a complex aroma. How much ground coffee do you use to make a cup of Death Wish?
Death Wish whole bean bagged, original dark roast mix coffee, which I ground myself at home, was the coffee that I tried. I followed the manufacturer’s directions, which said that 2.5 teaspoons of coffee grounds should be used for every six-ounce cup of coffee. As a point of reference, this is far more coffee per cup of water than I would normally consume. To prepare a six-ounce cup of coffee in my drip coffee machine, I usually use between one and a half and two teaspoons of coffee per cup of water.
This is something to keep in mind if you want to optimize (or minimize) the caffeine’s effects on your body.
The tasting experience
It makes for a really strong cup of coffee! However, in contrast to other strong brews, this coffee mix provides a pleasant, rather than bitter, drinking experience. It’s the type of mix that will satisfy your cravings completely. Moreover, we are not only referring about your demand for coffee here! We’d want you to know that if you visit RoastyCoffee.com and decide to purchase a product, we may receive a small compensation. The Death Wish Coffee brand is certainly familiar to those of you who are continuously on the search for something to pull you out of bed in the morning. But, like with any product that is largely offered online, how can you tell if it is effective? That is exactly what we are here for. We decided to try to evaluate Death Wish Coffee for you so that you can make an informed decision about whether or not to purchase it.
About the Company
Mike Brown founded the Death Wish Coffee Company in 2012, and it has since grown into a successful business. A coffee shop in Saratoga Springs, New York, was the beginning of the company. After settling on a signature blend of beans and a specialized roast, they set out to share their concoction with the rest of the world, which they accomplished in 2012.
Death Wish obtains the majority of their beans from India and Peru, among other places. They are, however, unusual in that they regularly sample beans from various places in order to account for climate fluctuations that impact the strength of the coffee they are producing. The amount of caffeine in a bean is mostly determined by the type of bean used, rather than by anything that occurs during the roasting process. Death Wish, on the other hand, gives credit to their trademark roasting method as well.
It is more likely that their roasting process has an impact on the consistency of their product and the strength of their taste than it does on the amount of caffeine you get from their product.
Despite the fact that sustainability doesn’t tell you anything about the flavor of the coffee, it does tell you a great deal about the moral character of the enterprise. In fact, Death Wish coffee is a Fair Trade certified product, and the company has even dedicated an entire page of their website to explaining why they opted to obtain their beans in this manner. Check read this page for additional information on exactly what that implies in terms of technicalities and jargon.
But, in essence, it means that some protections are in place to ensure that farmers are given fair pay, that child and forced labor are forbidden, and that there is an increase in the production of high-quality, environmentally friendly goods from small farms.
Each package, as well as the bag, contains clearly indicated “sell by” dates. There were no clearly defined roast dates to be found, on the other hand. This might be an indication that your grinds or beans aren’t very fresh if you’re dealing with a less reputed company. The good news is that this does not appear to be an issue with Death Wish. The coffee we received was fresh and did not have any lingering aftertastes that we were concerned about. As a result, it receives our endorsement in this area, albeit it would be helpful if the box had some further information.
Ensure, however, that you have a grinder.
What’s in the box?
Death Wish is a darkroast coffee, which increases the intensity of the brew while not increasing the caffeine level. Caffeine is derived from the beans that were chosen in the previous section.
Death Wish also includes a sticker with their product, which is in addition to the coffee beans itself. In addition to being well-made, the sticker has a glossy finish and represents the same emblem that is printed on their bags.
The Important Part
Using a manual brewing instrument, such as a French press or an Aeropress, is the most effective method for brewing Death Wish, in our view. You will be able to extend the brewing time while maintaining precise control, and you will be able to fine-tune the process as needed. You may, however, experiment with different methods including as drip brewing, cold brewing, and more to find what works best for you. When we tried it in the French press and the AeroPress, the results were nearly identical; however, the French press brew seemed to bring out more of the flavor and general character of the roast than the Aeropress brew did.
When we first tried this coffee, we were concerned that the flavor would be lackluster. We were not disappointed. To my delight, I discovered that it was delicious enough to drink without the addition of any sugar. The coffee had a fresh and robust flavor without the extreme bitterness that may be found in other high-caffeine options. However, while the flavor wasn’t particularly delicate or subtle, it did have the distinctive strength of most dark roasts with only a tiny inoffensive spiciness.
When combined with brown sugar and almond milk, it worked nicely, and the taste was robust enough that it could stand up to the additions without being entirely overshadowed.
Death Wish Coffee has approximately the same amount of caffeine per fluid ounce as espresso; however, the serving size is significantly bigger, resulting in approximately 4.5 times the amount of caffeine contained in a 12 oz. cup as compared to a 2 oz. espresso. As regular coffee drinkers, the two of us who tried Death Wish were a little doubtful that we’d experience much more than an elevated heart rate and a more difficult mid-afternoon slump.
It would be an understatement to say that this coffee exceeded our expectations. What’s the finest thing about all of this excitement? There was no collision at all. In order to keep things moving, we didn’t have to stop and have another or third cup of coffee.
Should you try it?
- Caffeine jolt that lasts for a long time
- Fair Trade products that are sustainably sourced and verified
- With a powerful, bold taste that is not overly bitter
You should absolutely give Death Wish Coffee a shot if you want to put an end to your never-ending hunt for a terrific caffeine wake-up call. Furthermore, if you discover that you truly appreciate it, you may subscribe to it. You’ll always have freshly brewed, pleasantly caffeinated coffee on hand in this manner.
The caffeine concentration of this coffee is both its most noticeable positive and its most notable drawback, making it a win-win situation. As previously stated, consuming a standard 12 oz cup of this coffee contains the caffeine equivalent of drinking several shots of espresso in a single sitting. The effects of caffeine are individual, so if you’re already drinking your filthy chais with many shots of espresso in them, this drink is unlikely to cause you any discomfort. Proceed with caution, though, if you find yourself experiencing jitters after drinking your regular cup of coffee.
Additionally, for people who suffer from sleeplessness or anxiety, coffee may exacerbate some symptoms or cause more severe adverse effects than usual.
Consequently, take note of how you generally respond to caffeine, and behave in accordance with your findings, or see your doctor.
If Death Wish isn’t your cup of tea, there are a number of other highly caffeinated options to consider. Here are three of our personal favorites:
Kicking Horse Coffee: Kick Ass Dark Roast
Currently available for purchase Kicking Horse is another alternative that is environmentally friendly and fair trade. When it comes to “Extreme Bold,” the Kick Ass roast is their most powerful roast, with taste characteristics that include chocolate malt and molasses, among other earthy flavors.
Biohazard claims to be the “strongest coffee on the planet” and has more caffeine per 12 oz cup than even Death Wish, according to the company. They, on the other hand, solely utilize Robusta beans (Death Wish uses a combination ofRobusta and Arabica). Since caffeine content has increased, some flavor has been sacrificed in exchange for this increase.
What About Valhalla Java Odinforce?
Valhalla Java is another coffee product from Death Wish, and it was developed in collaboration with musician Zakk Wylde to make it (former guitarist for Ozzy Ozbourne and founder of the heavy metal band, Black Label Society). This may be the ideal option for individuals who like the taste of Death Wish coffee but want it to be ever so slightly less caffeinated in order to function well. Currently available for purchase
How could we possibly overlook the evident pleasure of drinking a cup of coffee that is touted as a product of Norse mythology? From the product’s name and gleaming gold and black box to the sheer beauty of the design, this is one thing that is difficult to overlook or dismiss completely. Additionally, it includes a sticker that matches the eye-catching box.
Creating this blend, the Death Wish Coffee Co. stated that their intention was to “concentrate on a balanced palate with power and a smooth finish.” In the end, the blend is a true work of art, consisting of three separate medium and dark roasts sourced from coffee cultivated in volcanic soils in Indonesia, as well as rich soils in Central and South America, and blended together. Due to the fact that the flavor is mostly comprised of toasted, nutty flavors, it is very mild, and the scent is nice.
There may also be undertones of chocolate and molasses in the aroma. Overall, the brew is exceptionally smooth, with a notable absence of bitterness, which is characteristic of Death Wish Coffee’s brew.
In spite of the fact that Valhalla does not have the same level of caffeine intensity as Death Wish, it is by no means a light cup of coffee. There is still plenty of it to get you up and running in the morning, and it may still be a little too much for folks who are very sensitive to its effects in the evening. It is worth mentioning, however, that this coffee, like Death Wish, appears to induce less of the negative side effects associated with high-caffeine goods than other varieties. The majority of those who have consumed Valhalla Java have reported no nausea or jitters after doing so.
No need to be concerned if you were concerned that the new alliance might result in some compromises on the issue of sustainability. This is not the case. Fair Trade and USDA Organic certifications are the same as those held by the old version of Valhalla Java.
It is highly recommended that you drink Death Wish Coffee if your heart can withstand it. It doesn’t matter if you’re seeking for something that has been responsibly sourced or just want a strong caffeine spike; this mix has got you covered. In addition, you’ll receive a cool sticker! So if you’re interested in giving it a try, you can get it on Amazon at the following link:
