  1. Amass your supplies. Take out your french press, tea kettle, coffee beans, and coffee grinder

Pour your water slowly by holding the french press in one hand and the kettle in the other, tilting the french press slightly and pouring the water in a circle around the beans. Fill the beans with only a few inches of water, just enough to see the beans begin to grow and blossoms (expand). Take the french press and carefully swirl the water around to ensure that all of the beans are coated. Allow for one minute of resting time before adding the remaining water. The remaining of your water should be poured into the french press in a circular motion. Swirl the water around by spinning the french press in circular motions once more to incorporate the flavors (or stir the coffee with a spoon). You should apply a thin coating of crema over the top, as seen above
  6. Allow for 5-10 minutes of steeping time. Remove the plunger from the french press and place the lid on top of the machine. The amount of time you should let your coffee soak is determined by how strong you want your coffee. 5-10 minutes is a reasonable time frame. Push the plunger all the way down. If you have properly ground your coffee, the plunger should not be too easy to push down, but it should also not be too difficult to press down. You should expect to be confronted with some degree of opposition. Make sure to fill your glasses halfway with ice (some may melt, which is why you brewed double-strength coffee)
  7. Pour over ice You may customize the flavor to your liking. Personal preference will determine whether or not to include water, cream/milk, or flavoring. You are under no need to contribute anything at this stage unless you choose to
