For two years, I worked three afternoons a week at my Dunkin Donuts “office,” while my kid took taekwondo classes next door in the neighborhood. Despite the fact that they are most known for their donuts, there are a significant number of products on their menu that fit inside my allowed parameters.

First and foremost, watch out for hidden sugar!

Before we begin picking menu items, let’s take a brief look at the added sugars in each dish. The American Heart Association recommends that women and children consume no more than 24 grams (6 teaspoons) of added sugar per day, and men consume no more than 36 grams (9 teaspoons) per day. We’re talking about ADDED sugars here, like the sort found in syrupy coffee drinks, not the natural sugars found in dairy products like milk. When looking at the nutritional information of Dunkin Donuts drinks, it’s crucial to remember this.

For example, a standard iced coffee made with skim milk and no-calorie sweetener contains 40 calories and 5 grams of sugar, all of which come from the milk itself.

The company has followed in the footsteps of Starbucks by introducing two new kinds ofDunkin’ Refreshers: Strawberry Dragonfruit and Peach Passion Fruit, all of which are manufactured without the use of artificial colours or flavors. Considering that a small has 80 calories and a medium has 130 calories, they are a relatively low-calorie alternative. They do, however, include all of their calories from added sugars—27 to 29 grams in a medium serving, which is more than a full day’s worth of calories for a woman.

Additionally, the components are somewhat clean (I despise the phrase “clean”) and healthful, and the refresher contains B vitamins as follows: Strawberry Dragonfruit Refresher contains the following ingredients: Freshly brewed green tea; Strawberry Dragonfruit Flavored Concentrate: Water (aqua), sugar (natural flavors), citric acid, green tea extract (for color), pyridoxine hydrochloride (vitamin B6), cyanocobalamin (vitamin B12), niacinamide (vitamin B3), D-Calcium Pantothenate (vitamin B5), pyridoxine hydrochloride (vitamin B6), cyanocobalamin (Vitamin B12).

The bottom line on refreshers is that they contain a respectable number of calories, all of which are derived from sugar.

Aside from that, they include caffeine derived from green tea (66mg in a small, which is roughly one-third the amount in a Dunkin’ Donuts small iced coffee).

New for 2021: Dunkin’ Coconut Refreshers:

You can now purchase a refreshment with coconut milk at Dunkin’ Donuts that is meant to look like the iconic Starbucks “pink drink.” There are three types to choose from: Golden Peach, Pink Strawberry, and Purple Pomegranate (to name a couple). A small has 110-120 calories, a medium contains 170-180 calories, and a large contains 230 calories. Keep in mind that, like the conventional refreshers, they include a large quantity of sugar that has been added to the drink. On average, a small weighs 20 grams, a medium weighs 30 grams, and a large weighs 40 grams, with the Pink Strawberry weighing somewhat less than the others.

Be cautious with seemingly “healthy” food options!

Make no mistake: false health goods such as theReduced Fat Blueberry Muffin, which has 410 calories and 39 grams of sugar, are not worth it. That’s a pail of sugar and flour that’s about the size of a supper. Thank you, but no thanks. Also, while a multigrain or whole grain bagel may sound healthy, it will still have 320-350 calories before you add the cream cheese or butter.

In terms of bread, that’s the equal of four pieces of bread. Of course, whole grains are preferable than a doughnut, but keep in mind that even whole grain foods can be too big and contribute an excessive number of calories to your diet.

In the past, DD offered the ” DDSmart ” designation, which identified items that were “reduced in calories, fat, saturated fat, sugar, or sodium by at least 25 percent when compared to a base product or other appropriate reference product, and/or contain an ingredient or nutrient that is nutritionally beneficial.” That appears to have vanished in recent times. It didn’t really mean much without looking into the nutritional information, so always use your common sense while making food choices.

  1. If you’re in a rush and need a quick breakfast or lunch, there are certain go-to things that are not only convenient but also nutritious.
  2. It has 290 calories, 17 grams of protein, 5 grams of fiber, and 550 milligrams of sodium.
  3. Adding a small macchiato or latte made with skim milk and no-calorie sweetener completes a well balanced meal that includes a solid source of protein.- The Egg White Veggie Wake-Up Wrap, which has 190 calories and 9 grams of protein, is an alternative choice.
  4. Because they are smaller than the multigrain thin sandwich, The Avocado Toast is a new addition to the menu.

Okay, here’s how it works. I’m thrilled that more vegetarian menu options and plant-based animal replacements are becoming available in popular restaurants and grocery stores.
